Love the Madness

2012 was great! Those who have helped pull this all together understand the "madness" involved, but we do it because we love to ride and we love to support the growing outdoor initiative in our community! We hit 100 riders, the weather was perfect, riders liked the new courses, and we raised about $3,500 for the park! Thank you riders, sponsors, and volunteers ~ you all make it happen! We are busy gearing up for this year's ride on June 22, 2013.

Keep checking back on the website for updates. I just uploaded some new pictures from last year. Also check out online registration, which is quick, convenient, and no more processing fees for this year!

Spring is right around the corner. It is time to start riding (or thinking about it) if you havent already! Looking forward to seeing you in June!

Tomorrow's the Big Day!

The 2nd Annual Millerstown Community Park Bike Tour!! 

Pink at Night... Rider's Delight! We had such a neat sky to do our set-up under.

It has been months in the planning and it's all coming together on one day ~ June 23rd, 2012!

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and volunteers who help to make this event possible!

Here is a quick reminder of the schedule tomorrow:

Registration:  8:00AM-10:00AM 

$25 Day-Of Price

$12 for Adult T-Shirts

25K-50K-100K Courses:  Open at 8:00AM and Close at 4:00PM

* You are welcome to stay on the courses later, but there will not be rest stops and road support available after this time. *

Bike Rodeo:  10:00AM-12:30PM

Activities are FREE and include Bike Inspection, Helmet Fitting, Hand Signalling, Obstacle Courses, and lunch! 

$10 for Youth T-shirts

Lunch will be $4 for all non-participants 

(anyone that isn't a rider, ghost rider, rodeo kid, or sponsor)

All Riders can enjoy a FREE POOL PASS and LUNCH after the ride! 

Zimmerman's Bike Shop will be onsite as our mechanic, and they will have a few bikes and accessories for sale tomorrow too. 

Bootlleg Creamery will also be onsite selling gourmet ice cream - yummy!

CLIF Bar and GOOD are sponsoring the 2012 Bike Week Challenge, a great opportunity

to promote biking in local communities.

Cycling is good for healthy living and it’s good for the environment.

 That’s why we are asking you to support the Millerstown Community Park by VOTING for us in the CLIF Bar Bike Bike Week Challenge!!

Voting will open on June 11th and the project with the most votes by June 25th 

will win the $1,000 grant!!

2 Weeks Left To Go!

It's almost time for the 2nd Annual Millerstown Community Park Bike Tour!! 

Everything seems to be falling into place and now we're just waiting on all of you to sign up =)!! We get so excited to check our mail this time of year! 

Please remember to preregister ($20) in order to save $5 and get a FREE t-shirt with our new logo.  The t-shirts are a charcoal grey this year and they look so cool! Extra t-shirts can be purchased the day-of for $10 each. By preregistering, you also help us to plan ahead for rest stop supplies and the free lunch that is provided after the ride.

There are 2 events going on this year... 

1.   25K-50K-100K Bike Tours 
• All three rides have New Routes this year!
• Free lunch and Pool Pass at the end of the Ride.
• Rest Stop and SAG support along the way.
2.   Bike Rodeo 
•  The Bike Rodeo is free for kids/youth and youth size t-shirts will be available for $10.
•  There will be a free lunch provided upon completion of the stations. 
•  Bike and Helmet inspections will make sure your child is riding safely. 
•  McDonald's is providing orange drink and free ice cream cone coupons! 

Zimmerman's Bike Shop will be onsite to provide mechanic services. In addition, there will be a handful of helmets, bikes, and supplies available for purchase.

Bootlleg Creamery will also be onsite selling gourmet ice cream! Sooooooo yummy!

2012 Ride Routes

The Ride Routes are also NEW this year!

Each of the routes are mapped out through MapMyRide and are accessible on your mobile phone via the MapMyRide App. Follow this link, or click to the 2012 Ride Routes Page above to see the elevation and details of each ride. 

This year, we cut down on some of the bigger hills in hopes of making the rides a little more enjoyable =). It's still going to be a great workout and of course a beautiful ride!
 
Are you familiar with GoPro Cameras? I got Scott the HD Hero2 Outdoor Edition for Christmas last year and he loves it! So far we have filmed sled riding down our driveway, wildlife passing through our yard, of course lots of cycling clips, and more. We're currently working on getting a few video clips of the ride routes, so stay tuned!

Here are some highlights of the Rides:

• All rides will start and end at the Millerstown Community Park
• enjoy the fellowship of other riders over a free lunch
• meet our Bike Shop Sponsor and Mechanic - Andrew Zimmerman
• cool off with a free pool pass
• take a walk on our river path along the Juniata 

• The 25K will traverse through the shade trees at the base of the Buffalo Mountain, then through the small town villages of Centerville and Reward.

• The 50K will also travel along the Buffalo Mountain, descends through Perry Valley farms to the smooth roads of Rt 235, then enters Juniata County and through the village of Seven Stars. The last portion of the ride winds along the beautiful Cocalamus Creek to Rt 17, then through our very own Millerstown.

• The 100K ride will start off by traveling through Millerstown, crossing the Juniata River, and making your way through shaded Sugar Run Rd. Then you drop into Buckwheat Valley and start a Cat 5 climb up and over Raccoon Ridge. Watch out for the sharp right hand turn on this descent! Then you'll travel Rt 17 on a gradual decline through the village of Donally Mills, passing The Tuscarora Bison Farm, and through Millerstown to Cococlamus Creek Rd. Here you will meander along the creek into Juniata County. Then the route travels through the villages of Kellerville, Richfield (here you will have a gorgeous 5 county view atop Dressler Ridge!), Oriental, and Liverpool. Back in Perry County, you will follow the Buffalo Mountain home to the park. 

 

• Each rest stop will feature some of the kindest, gracious volunteers we know! Here you will find drink refills and snacks (featuring delicious whoopie pies from S&S Catering and Baked Goods). Our volunteers will also be able to call back to the park if you need support or gear.

• A SAG (support and gear) volunteer will be traveling along the routes via scooter or motorcycle, carrying extra water and tubes.    

• We will provide a cell number that you can call or text any time during the ride for support.

A Fresh NEW Look

As you can see, we're gearing up for the 2012 Bike Tour!

Here is what's new!

• Online Registration:  this enables you to register and pay online without the hassle of printing and mailing anything! The only downside is that there is a small service fee based on the amount of your total order. It will be 5.5% of your total, which only ends up being a couple dollars for a basic registration. We will still be accepting registrations and donations via mail.   
  
• Online Registration is for the 25K-50K-100K, Bike Rodeo, and Ghost Rider! Donations and purchasing event t-shirts can also be done here.

• Bike Rodeo for Kids/Youth: this event will be held from 10:30AM-12:30PM and is FREE! Kids will be put into age groups (K-Middle School) when they check-in/register the morning of the event. Registration for the Rodeo will be open from 9-10:30AM. Events will include: bike safety and signaling, helmet fitting/checks, obstacle course, bike maintenance and knowing your bike, and a FREE lunch for all participants. We ask that any adults accompanying their children for lunch make a donation as you see fit. Youth t-shirts can be purchased for $10 online during registration. Only a limited number of youth sizes will be available the day of the event.    
 

• New Blog Design:  we hope you like the new look! It's likely to change a little from year to year, but we really wanted to give a more "natural" feel to the site.    

• New Logo!  we are working with a great, local graphic designer to create a logo and t-shirt design that captures what this ride is all about... getting out and enjoying nature, and of course cycling.  

• New T-shirt Design:  this year's t-shirt will feature the new logo on the front with a bike and year on the back, encircled by our generous sponsor's names. As of now, we're thinking maybe a cool shade of grey or black with the bright logo on the front. So neat! We can't wait to see how it turns out! Anyone can purchase a t-shirt for $12 (adult), $10 (youth) using the online registration and pick it up the day of the event. 

That's a lot of NEW! It has been lots of work, but we enjoy doing it and raising money for the park. Have you been to the park lately? Things are really looking great! There are 3 new pavilions, new pavement around the community building, and more landscaping. We can't wait until the rest of the trail is finished! Here are a few pictures from our visits to the park earlier this Spring.
